Sensory deprivation

Sensory deprivation tanks

Sensory deprivation tanks, also known as isolation tanks or float tanks, are enclosed pods filled with warm, buoyant water saturated with Epsom salt that allows individuals to float effortlessly. Designed to block out external stimuli such as light, sound, and touch, these tanks create a deeply relaxing environment that encourages a meditative state. The experience can help reduce stress, alleviate pain, promote mental clarity, and enhance overall well-being by providing a calm and peaceful space for both the body and mind to reset and rejuvenate

In a randomized controlled pilot trial published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Kjellgren et al. investigated the effects of floatation therapy (float pods) as a preventive health-care intervention. The study found that healthy participants who underwent multiple sessions of flotation-restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST) experienced significant reductions in stress and improvements in mood, sleep quality, and overall well-being compared to control groups.
